In view of these challenges, the Crops Division of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture organized a 3-day workshop on the Ghana Green Label Scheme for agricultural extension officers in the Greater Accra Region.

The workshop which was financed by the TRAQUE Programme is to equip the extension officers with knowledge on how to curb these challenges which they will relay to farmers in their various districts. The Green Label Scheme is made up various components like: safe food production, workers safety and health, appropriate post-harvest handling and distribution as well as good and environmentally sustainable agric practices.

The main target of the scheme is helping farmers produce safe fruit and vegetables for the local market.

Green Label Scheme Workshop

Agricultural extension officers drawn from various districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana underwent 3-day training on the Ghana Green Label Scheme in Nsawam. The scheme, under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Crop Services aims at guiding farmers to implement requirements outlined in the Ghana Green Label Standard.

The extension officers taken through this training have the mandate of transferring the knowledge gained to farmers in their various districts. The Green Label Scheme entails conformity, accepted and standard practices needed for exported products. This will lead to good agricultural practices needed to meet international standards.

The TRAQUE Programme (funded by the European Union) in its quest in ensuring standards and quality implementation of trade activities supported this workshop.
